The honest limitation is that the health readout gives a verdict rather than the numbers behind it, so a drive that has quietly reallocated forty sectors still reports as passing. What sits outside it

Three neighbouring jobs belong to other applications rather than this one. Password protection and the hardware encryption on drives that support it are handled by WD Security, which is a separate download despite covering the same drives.

Solid state models have their own companion instead, and the dashboard built for the maker’s flash drives reports wear and remaining life rather than surface tests, which is the correct distinction since scanning sectors means nothing on flash storage.

And the boundary that catches people out is the brand one. Attach a drive from any other maker and WD Drive Utilities simply will not list it, which is deliberate rather than a fault.
